Direct and indirect objects

El objeto directo (direct object), en una oración, es aquel sobre el que se aplica la acción. Es decir, es aquello que recibe la acción directamente. Aunque se denomine “objeto directo” puede tratarse tanto de un objeto como de una persona.

• I write a letter. / Escribo una carta.

El objeto indirecto responde a la pregunta “a quién” o “para quién”. Se introduce con la preposición “to” o “for”.

• I write a letter for my mother. / Escribo una carta para mi madre.

La estructura de la oración con objeto directo y objeto indirecto es:

• Sujeto + verbo + algo (objeto directo) + a alguien (objeto indirecto)
